Saint Gervais - the resort

At an altitude of 580 metres, nested at the bottom of the Arve Valley, 200 metres below Saint Gervais village, Le Fayet, is a spa resort that has been attracting tourists since 1806 when its natural springs were first discovered.

The natural springs, which are rich in minerals and trace elements, are widely used in ORL cures and in dermatological treatments.

A beauty spa provides health and beauty treatments as well as a long line of cosmetics complimenting the cures available at the thermal baths.

Saint-Gervais-Les-Bains is in the heart of the Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Europe, with Chamonix as one of its neighbouring resorts.

At an altitude of 850 metres, its cultural and architectural heritage stems from the prolific thermal period at the beginning of the 20th century.

At an altitude of 1150 metres, Saint-Nicolas de Véroce is a traditional Savoyard village built around its church, which is a jewel of baroque art dating back to the 17th century.

At an altitude of 1400 metres, Le Bettex village offers a stunning view of the Mont Blanc Massif.

In winter, Le Bettex is the snow front for the largest ski area of the resort, whilst in summer, it is sought after by hikers for its high mountain pasture. 

The Saint Gervais ski area links up to 3 other ski areas:

• Megève-Combloux,
• Les Contamines Montjoie
• and Les Houches.

The Evasion Mont Blanc ski pass covers all of these areas and includes 125 ski lifts and more than 500 kilometres (310 miles) of slopes.
The ski area is open from mid December until mid April.

The Mont Blanc Tram runs on the highest mountain railway line in France and is one of the last three remaining rack-rail trains.  In summer, it links Saint-Gervais-Les-Bains station (at 580 metres) to the Bionassay Glacier (“Nid d’Aigle” terminus at an altitude of 2372 metres), providing a spectacular panoramic view for admirers of breath-taking sceneries.

From here, the most experienced mountaineers can get to the Tête Rousse and the Goûter shelters before the challenging ascent of the Mont Blanc. In winter, the Mont Blanc Tram goes to the Prarion/Bellevue ski area (at an altitude of 1800 metres).
